FIBA Technologies’ Adelanto, California trailer repair service centre is to undergo a major expansion program that will add five new service bays and provide a new parts department and workshop area. The project is in response to demand for a greater capacity for servicing Type IV vessels, as well as to meet the needs of the growing electronics sector in the West Coast region.
A new building of around 10,000 sq ft is to be built at the existing FIBA Adelanto site. This being California, the building design and construction are subject to stringent local seismic regulations.
Chris Finn, FIBA’s Chief Commercial Officer, comments:
“FIBA services and repairs high pressure gas and cryogenic trailers for distribution companies and for gas majors right across the US, as well as at our Taiwan site. Because we specialize in a high standard of repair and rehabilitation to keep customers’ trailers on the road there is an increasing demand for our services, not least here in California.
“Post-Covid, the electronics industry is expanding its microchip manufacturing capabilities in California and other Western states, so FIBA is expanding to handle the demand from that sector.
“FIBA has also seen a rise in requalification work on Type IV vessels made by various manufacturers including Hexagon and Quantum.
“By adding a further five service bays to this location FIBA will be able to meet the growing demand for our specialist repair skills, with trailers coming to our Adelanto site from right up and down the west coast and further inland.
“We are adding these extended facilities following conversations with customers. FIBA prides itself on excellent customer communication and on its ability to get trailers back on the road as quickly as possible. By increasing our service capacity we anticipate being able to work on a greater number of trailers, meeting customers’ needs for a reduced downtime.”
This expansion project comes at a time when FIBA is also building a brand new manufacturing site in southern Sweden, its first in Europe.
As well as servicing and repairing high pressure gas and cryogenic trailers, each of FIBA’s service centers rehabilitates and repairs skids and ASME receivers. Key capabilities include blasting, painting and welding, as well as the full requalification of high pressure cylinders and the manufacture of ground storage assemblies.
The Adelanto site, along with those in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, also services cryogenic equipment.
These are all ASME-coded shops which hold “U” and/or “R” ASME stamps, allowing for the manufacture and repair of transportable and stationary cryogenic vessels and trailers.
