Oil refiner and petroleum products retailer Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is commissioning a demonstration hydrogen refueling station for heavy duty vehicles in Gujarat as part of its Green Drive to encourage a greater take-up of electric vehicles in India.

Engineering, procurement and construction is being provided by Nuberg and high pressure hydrogen storage is supplied by US-based FIBA Technologies Inc.

The fuel at the demo site will be sourced from an existing hydrogen generation unit and stored within a cascade system operating at 550 bar.

Jean-Christophe Poussin, FIBA’s International Sales Manager, comments:  “IOC is becoming a major player in the hydrogen fuel sector.  It has already established a hydrogen plant in Delhi to fuel buses; it has plans to have 15 fuel-cell powered buses operational in the second half of 2021; and has signed a pact with Greenstat Norway for setting up a Centre of Excellence on Hydrogen.

“This is FIBA’s first project with Nuberg and IOC, the first of what we hope will be many with the three companies working together.”
